"What do you Seek?"

In the beginning of John's Gospel, John the Baptist directs two disciples to follow Jesus.  As they were following, Jesus turns and "saw them following"and said "what do you seek?"  What must it have been like to look into Jesus' eyes? What must it have been like to have Jesus look into your eyes? To have him ask you a question?  This question by Jesus is such a direct and arresting question even today as it is asked to us. What do we seek?  As I'm beginning to pack and get my "things" ready for the trip, there seems to always be the fear of forgetting something.  "What do I need to bring" that I might forget.  The disciples would soon learn that "what" they were seeking for was a "who."  Scripture says they came and saw where he was staying and they stayed with him.  How is Jesus inviting you to come and see and stay with him?  How is he trying to speak to your heart and show you what you most deeply are looking for?  Jesus "looked at them" and they "looked at Jesus."  Allow yourself to get caught up in this exchange and let the desires of your heart come to the surface as Jesus asks the question: "What do you seek?"

Pray with John 2:35-42

  1. I think that there is a common goal of what the disciples seek in Jesus and what Jesus seeks in us. The promise of hope & love. What do I seek?...I seek to find in my heart a deeper understanding of his love for me and I hope to hear his voice more clearly and vividly in my heart, soul and mind.
